“We should always remember we are all individuals.” – 新井 さやか Sayaka Arai
Sayaka Arai
Japanese glass artist Sayaka Arai is based in Tokyo and Paris, where she creates sculptures and jewellery made of borosilicate glass. Her works have been shown at exhibitions in France, Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom.
“People often use stereotypes when they observe the world around them. Many seem to have lost interest in the arts, just focus on their work and have forgotten how to enjoy their lives. That’s why I am particularly glad if people connect with my art works, through which I like to share different concepts, feelings and thoughts. We should always remember we are all individuals.”

Borosilicate Glass
Borosilicate glass, first developed by the German glassmaker Otto Schott in the late 19th century, is a type of glass with silica and boron trioxide as main glass-forming constituents. More so than any other common glass, borosilicate glasses are known to be resistant to thermal shock, hence the wide variety of uses, ranging from cookware and lab equipment to implantable medical devices and devices used in space exploration. The thermal insulation tiles on the Space Shuttle, for instance, were coated with a borosilicate glass.
