“It was a fleeting visit,
All too brief,
In three short minutes,
He had been and gone”
The lyrics to Fleetwood Mac’s unsuccessful single “Dragonfly” were taken from a 1927 poem by Welsh poet and writer W. H. Davies, “The Dragonfly”, with some lines switched around and others omitted. Davies wrote the poem a few years after almost losing his wife to a fatal miscarriage, with his renewed appreciation for life inspiring the poem. I took this photo in the garden of my former home in Thailand, where a tragic accident cost the estate’s gardener his live. He left behind his pregnant wife and infant son who had no choice but to return to Myanmar to her family. I will never be able to see them again, so all I can do is hope they are in a better place now than when we waved goodbye to each other.
